Building for the Web, Drumbeat, WebFWD and more…

about:mozilla is a weekly round-up of news and contribution opportunities. Here’s what’s happening this week:

Building for the Web
Mozilla would like to introduce WebAPI. The project’s goal is to provide a basic HTML5 phone experience within 3 to 6 months to bridge the gap between the Web and native APIs, so that developers can build something for the world not just for a specific device or vendor.

Drumbeat is evolving

More than 180 members of the Drumbeat community participated in our survey, sharing their thoughts on the current drumbeat.org site. Find out what we learned and help us with some follow up questions.

WebFWD starts innovating
WebFWD recently announced their first two fellows OpenPhoto & CASH Music. As a bonus, three projects, Bubbls, Codulous & MySchoolHelp, came through as part of our partnership with Teens in Tech into our “Friends of WebFWD” program. If you have a project for our accelerator program, apply today.

Making Firefox like the Internet
Mitchell Baker posted some thoughts about the benefits of adopting a rapid release model for Firefox. This is just one of the changes Mozilla is making to remain relevant as Internet life changes. Join Mitchell for a community-wide discussion on the future of Mozilla.

Bug 700,000 Contest
Mozilla community members are invited to win Mozilla gear by predicting when bug 700,000 will be filed in the Bugzilla bug-tracking database. This fun contest has a long history—there’s been one every hundred thousand bugs since 2001. Make your prediction now!

Tomoshibi of Firefox, Hackasaurus Comics, MPL Upgrade and more…

about:mozilla is a weekly round-up of news and contribution opportunities. A special thanks to Paul Booker for stepping in as our new about:mozilla author! Here’s what’s happening this week:

Tomoshibi of Firefox
This wonderful application built by Daisuke Akatsuka makes use of several new features in Firefox such as CSS Transitions & Audio Data API. It provides a virtual display in real time of Firefox 6 dowloads all over Japan. Cool stuff!

Let’s create Hackasaurus comics using HTML5 awesomeness

Jess Klein and Anna Debenham from the Hackasaurus team have been working on creating a hackable comic prototype that will make good use of the cool new features in HTML5. So far they have drafted a few frames of the narrative and tested the idea on a bunch of tween game designers. If you are interested in learning more about Hackasaurus, or are interested in our work around gaming, please visit the Hackasaurus website.

MPL Upgrade
Mozilla is on the verge of completing an 18-month process to revise the Mozilla Public License (MPL) says Gervase Markham of the Mozilla Foundation. We invite everyone in our community to review the license and raise any issues or questions that you may have.

Meet Betafarm
The new site that is currently under development is an effort to put supported projects from Mozilla Labs and the Mozilla Foundation under a single roof and to make it easy for anyone to find, follow and contribute to Mozilla projects. You are invited to kick the tires and let us know what you think: http://beta.drumbeat.org

Improvements in QMO land
Members of the quality.mozilla.org (QMO) community can now share their bug activities via their profile pages with other members of the QMO community. Read more. QMO has also launched a bi-weekly newsletter to share Mozilla QA happenings, news and opportunities.
