Add-on SDK: weekly update for Sept. 27th, 2011

Project News

We have created builds for Add-on SDK 1.2b2 as a tarball and a ZIP archive. For all the details, please see Myk’s post to the Jetpack Google Group.

A number of members of the SDK team are travelling this week, converging on Jolly Old England to host a night of Add-on SDK workshops! If you aren’t able to make it, the good news is we hope to have video of the sessions to post afterwards.

Meeting Brief

  • SDK re-packs were run last night, 95% success, working on fixing up failures, post-mortem session discussed.
  • SDK 1.2: second test release to be built later today
  • SDK Workshops: London this Thursday, discussed postponing MV workshop due to time constraints.
  • context-menu module memory issues discussed
  • mobile status: page-mod ported to mobile, plan is to implement a demo add-on this week

Just wanted to point out that, despite disabling the “Upgrade SDK?” option in the Developer Hub several months ago, my add-on was upgraded Monday night. Twice, no less. Worst of all, because I’ve made changes to the SDK to work around bug 677785, anyone who downloaded these updates before I was able to remove them is now left with a broken add-on.

Needless to say, I hope you’ll review your upgrade code before the next pass. This can’t happen again.

Sorry about that — I informed the developers and they’ve filed https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=690824 . It will be fixed before the next upgrade.
