• We released two point releases, 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 to address issues related to deploying SDk 1.4 on the Add-on Builder site.
• Jorge pointed out an important compatibility issue with SDK 1.3 and the upcoming Firefox 11 release in his compatibility post. We will be re-packing add-ons built with 1.3 and lower prior to the release of Firefox 11, but in the meantime you should base all current and new releases on SDK 1.4.
• There were a couple of community-developed modules discussed on the google group this week, including madarche’s OrderedMap implementation and Ben Buksch’s collections module. This is exciting to see, particularly because they are now collaborating on a single implementation.
• Looking forward to participating at FOSDEM this weekend!

• Add-on Builder: continuing to prepare for 1.0 release, next steps include refreshing vide content on AMO and bug fix releases over the next 2 weeks.
• SDK: released 1.4.1 & 1.4.2 to address Builder integration issues, 1.5b3 is being spun this afternoon.

I am also going to try to organize a couple of additional happenings during the weekend:

• dinner on Saturday night! If you want to come out with us to sample some local food and talk about Add-on & Firefox development, drop by the Mozilla room as we wrap up the day at 7PM on Saturday.
• an Add-ons BOF on Sunday afternoon. FOSDEM is providing two rooms for BOFs this year, so I will try to schedule a convenient time as soon as I can and will put up signs announcing the time & place in the Mozilla room as well as at the Mozilla booth.

• Matteo Ferretti recently landed initial mobile support for the page-mod module in pull request 301 Watch this space for additional posts on creating mobile addons with the SDK!
• Dietrich Ayala blogged about the Firefox Features effort, and the current plans for pushing this SDK-related project forward in 2012.
• We’re working with the Mozilla automation team to automate SDK performance tests.

Meeting Brief

• Q4 re-cap: most goals are in good shape, need to blog about them, in particular mobile page-mod support.
• Mossop is working with the Automation test to get automated performance tests running this quarter.
• Changes in Firefox 10 have changed how arrays are treated when passed into content scripts, we need to adjust SDK code to account for this. This is now a blocking issue for 1.4
• Flightdeck: looking towards scheduled 1.0 launch and 2012 roadmap, co-ordinating with Alex to fix issues in the current builder helper add-on.
• Hidden window research is promising.

1. If you’re a web developer curious about branching out and hacking the browser, we can show you the basics.
2. If you’re more familiar with traditional Firefox extensions, we can answer questions about the differences between those techniques and the SDK’s approach, and show you how to leverage your existing knowledge.
3. If you’ve already used the SDK and have questions or suggestions for improvement, we’d love to chat about the future of the SDK and how to contribute and extend the existing apis.

To make sure you get the most out of the day, please make sure you bring a wifi-capable laptop ( and power adapter! ). It would also help to do the following:

• Register for an account on AMO; you’ll need this in order to use the online builder.
• If you haven’t already, install the SDK on your laptop and run through the tutorial. You might also want to watch this screencast.

The Jetpack Project is excited to host an all-day hack fest on Saturday, November 19th at Mozilla’s offices in Mountain View. This all-day event is designed to get you hands-on experience using the Add-on SDK & the online Add-on Builder to create Firefox addons.

The format of the day will be a participant-driven ‘unconference‘, including lightning talks and coding competitions to win Mozilla swag. Whether you’re an experienced add-on dev or a web developer curious about hacking the browser, Jetpack project members will be on-hand to field questions and help get you started.
