A quick note to kindly request your help in making Firefox better. The Places Stats Project has been up and running for nearly three months now, and I previously blahhged about it and our initial results here. Everyone’s been busy getting Firefox 3.5 out the door since then, but now that work on it is winding down I’ll post soon about some of the things we learned.

Is there any way that the time it takes to show the “History” menu can be submitted to the statistics? I know that pre-places, if one had a lot of history, it took a lot of time. With places it seems OK, but recently I started having problems (esp. the first time the menu is opened, it sometimes takes many seconds during which the browser is unresponsive).
Kim, that’s actually been fixed for Firefox 3.5, which will be released shortly. (If you’d like you can read about the fix at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488966.) But that’s a good example of exactly the kinds of problems we are trying to solve, and getting an idea of people’s usage of Places will help us do that.
That’s a quite recent patch, isn’t it? I’m still on 3.5b4… Great to hear that!

And re: the History menu, hey cool, I just updated to 3.5b99 a few minutes before visiting this page, hadn’t noticed that it’s fixed now. It was always annoying having to wait a while for that.
