l10n merge
3 July 2008I’ve just pushed an implementation of l10n-merge to my tooling repository. It’s now actually just an option to compare-locales, and will do the weakest heuristic for now.
Whenever compare-locales finds missing entries in an existing file, it will create a copy of that file in a staging directory for the merge, and append the missing entries. [...]
EUROPEADA 2008
2 June 2008Just wanted to point all of you into soccer and languages at the EUROPEADA 2008, that’s currently on. “The soccer tournament for the autochthonous, national minorities in Europe”, as they say themselves. There’s a video featuring some of the languages spoken on tagesschau.de (German).
L10n buildbots builds, the first quarter
14 April 2008The current setup of my l10n buildbot is running for 3 months now, or a quarter. I figured that’d be a good time to do some stats.
In these three months, the l10n server ran about 10600 builds, 10416 of those on trunk. Of the latter, 2330 builds succeeded, 8086 failed (fun number pun). The total [...]
# Localization note (netError.dtd): overrides
8 April 2008I thought I knew what we did for netError.xhtml and netError.dtd, but I didn’t, so here’s a little thing I learned today:
netError.xhtml loads 3 DTDs, one for xhtml, one is netError.dtd (global) and one is global.dtd (for RTLishness). Two boring ones, one interesting. Now, what we used to do is that browser would override the [...]
Users and testers
27 March 2008Trevor swiftly fixed bug 424993, so now I can talk about users and testers of Firefox 2 and 3, per locale, per platform. Thanks. This is data over the last 7 days, so it’s not dead-on representative, and it won’t cover new locales in B5, but only the end-game in B4. As we’re constantly ramping [...]
How is ab-CD doing?
28 January 2008Just wanted to plot a brief update. I’m currently mostly working on improving our understanding of how localizations are doing for Firefox 3. The plan is to come up with a dashboard, gathering at least the quantifiable machine-readable information. The work there is improving nicely, you can see it at http://l10n.mozilla.org/dashboard/. There is still [...]
FOSS.IN report
17 December 2007I’ve been out of Berlin for two weeks, first to MV for workweek, where we had three and a half days of meetings. Interesting stuff, but nothing to blog about yet.
Then Mary Colvig, Chris Hofmann, Myk Melez, and I headed over to Bangalore for FOSS.IN. This trip started as a fallout from Chris’ and SethB’s [...]
Enter Bug: Mozilla Localizations
6 December 2007Thanks to reed and bug 353480, the Mozilla Localizations component on Bugzilla moved from “Client Support” over to the “Client Software” category, and is now available on the main enter_bug.cgi page. This should make it much easier for international testers to find their way to file bugs on our localizations, and is yet another small [...]
Localizations for Firefox 3 Beta 1
30 October 2007I posted to mozilla.dev.l10n about how we’re going to ship localizations for Firefox 3 Beta 1, aka M9. In a very executive summary,
opt in — to do so, follow up on the post on m.d.l10n
go green
don’t mess up search etc
help testing
Find the full posting on news.m.o or google groups. Questions, opt-ins and follow-ups should all [...]
Firefox 2 glossary
30 October 2007As I have been blogging before, I try to create a glossary for Firefox 2. I’m leaving out all the gory details, but it’s been a hard fight between me trying to be clever and being dumb. I’m still not happy with the code that creates the data, but still, I think this iteration generates [...]
