Hello,
I use Adobe Dreamweaver, Microsoft Expression Web and Adobe Indesign for web design and editing. Upon loading Firefox 3, Firefox took over control of my computer and overwrote all my .htm/.html files in File Explorer, Dreamweaver, etc with the Firefox logo and the words ‘Firefox Document’ instead of .htm or .html as a file type.
This is piracy and hijacking of my computer’s operating system. I would like to see Mozilla offer a formal apology to everyone and include an update immediately that removes this trojan virus from within the program. It is unconscionable and extremely egregious, and if Mozilla does not address it immediately I see a class-action lawsuit coming and incredible negative publicity.
Sincerely,
Michael Gibson

@Michael Gibson - When you installed Firefox 3, you allowed it to become your default web browser. Any .htm/.html file would now be opened by Firefox by default. It is normal for default applications to associate file extensions with the application. That is what has happened here. If you change your default browser back to Internet Explorer, the Firefox logo and “Firefox Document” file type will change back to the previous settings.
Please note, nothing was overwrote or hijacked. If you look at ‘File Explorer’ you will see many such logos and descriptions for other file types on your system.

It is lie. I didn’t allow Firefox to became my default brouser and it is not a default browser, but it changed all html-like filetypes to be treated as “Firefox Document” (when FF was upgrading to FF 3.0). It is baseness. Firefox is going one road with Microsoft since now. To hell. It is not for freedom now - but for marketing. Tu quoque Brute!

Meta, if you upgraded from Firefox 2 to Firefox 3, there is a dialog asking whether you want to make Firefox your default browser. You must have selected that because if you did not there is no way for the application to change your settings.

I upgraded from FF 2 to FF 3. I did not (definetely) allow FF to become the default browser and it is in fact not my default browser (and was not).
It is just changes file types settings: it added “Firefox Document” to file types and change (x)htm(l) files to be treated as “Firefox Documents”. All DDE and other setting for those types were changed due to this. Not due to direct change. And IE is still my defaul browser. But there is no files/urls to browse by default using IE due to all web documents now just not “Internet Shortcut” as they were before
It is very funny and clever way to steal a chair from under M$ IE. But in this war they forget about us - users. I am not like FF any more. They are like M$.
