Welcome to Impact Mozilla!

For our initial post, we want to take a moment to highlight some frequently asked questions and answers…

Question: Can I submit Firefox product or feature ideas?
Answer: The focus of this competition is on pure marketing ideas.  Specifically, we’re hoping to see plans that address strategies and tactics around retaining *existing* users of Firefox (i.e., those who have already downloaded and installed the browser).

Question: Can I participate on my own? If I participate as a team, is there a size limit?
Answer: You can participation either on your own or as a team.  Please keep in mind that there is a single grand prize, so if a team were to win, it would be up to that team to split the prize amongst themselves.

Question: When I submit my plan, what format should my submission be in?
Answer: The choice is up to you as to how you present your idea to us.  As outlined here — impactmozilla.com/basic.html — we’re asking participants to craft a two page summary of their marketing idea.  Any form of submission (e.g., word document, powerpoint slides, text within an email message, etc.) will be considered.

Question: Is there a budget for my marketing plan?  Can I suggest a super bowl commercial (or other relatively expensive advertising channels)?
Answer: We’re suggesting a $10,000 budget limit for the creation and execution of your marketing plan.  You’re allowed some flexibility here as we don’t want to exclude potentially brilliant ideas based solely on small or large budgets.  A super bowl commercial is a good example of something that is beyond the means of this competition.  That said, if you can come up with an ultra creative, Mozilla-like way to make something like that happen on a shoestring budget, we’ll listen.

I am Firefox fan since its very first release. I am so excited about this and ready to help mozilla.

  2. chris Says:

How about releasing your own operating system and making it the default and only web browser for it. That way not only you get the existing customers but a whole new open source operating system that can, like firefox, be added to by users, you can make them like downloadable add ons and the major updates download like the windows update system for microsoft. You could call it “Windfox”.

  3. Vinodh Kumar Says:

Mozilla(Firefox) is the best in the people of IT field especially who develop web applications due to its added add-ons.I am one who deserves to use Firefox to develop all my web apps.

And i wish all the success for the “Welcome to Impact Mozilla!”

I know that I am already thinking up things, and I know I will be submitting it! :]

This website is just terribly done: 90% of the space wasted for decor, text in light grey on white in a tiny font. Pages do not adapt to browser window size at all.
No need to even mention accessability issues at all, of course.

Sorry, but “pathetic” is the only word that comes to mind.

I rather liked the way it looks. Picky, picky.

could you please email you comment’s

  13. Akbar Says:

I agree that Mozilla Firefox is best, but I disagree that the Mozilla Firefox is cool or awesome etc, because as i saw in the basic info it has clearly mention that over time we know that tens of millions of people have downloaded Firefox, but don’t continue to use it today, yes your wright. Why because Mozilla Firefox is only about getting internet better but not making customer interested day by day. Mozilla can’t distract customers to Firefox, so usually customer get bored and happened the same, As a fan of Firefox I will definitely help Mozilla and submit some cool interesting ideas to get better and best.

    Tp Aaakash Apoorv and Abbey:
Whether you find this site beautiful or not is a matter of opinion. However, missing accessability, readability and adaptability to window size are facts that cannot be disputed. This site violates a lot of rules of good design and makes it hard for many users to use it.

This is why it is a very bad example of web design and as I said: pathetic.

  18. JPisinsanelycool Says:

JP, at which point did your opinion on accessability, readability and adaptability become indisputable?

  19. SRWare Iron Says:

    $3000… That’s it?

  20. Yogesh Tomar Says:

I love mozilla firefox and I hate IE, thats why I look forward to success of this plan. I would like to contribute if I can find time.

  21. Heroes450 Says:

I Love Firefox…. but i also dont mind IE

  22. calm Says:

    $10,000?
well, if i have some idea, but i dont know what the price is, is it ok?
im sure my plan is something mozilla afford, but i dont know the price of it? do i really need to do research for those, even in phase 1 only?

  23. Ryan Says:

It’s a good question by ‘calm’…how thorough should this be on subjects like budgets that might only be known to marketing experts?

  24. JP Says:

It is indisputable that anyone who chooses to use a FF window that is smaller than the fixed width of this pathetic design does not see essential navigation items. It is indisputable that low contrast text on a light background is hard to read for many people with poor eyesight. Accessibility is well defined and a topic of many studies and research, just read up on that topic to find out why this site is a textbook example of how not to do it.

As expected the people responsible for this mess are obviously immune to learning or informing themselves. A disgrace for the FF communitiy this is, really.
