It’s time to Shock the Web!

Campus Reps, Community, Marketing 30 June 2009 | 15 Comments

It’s no surprise that Firefox 3.5 is already causing a ruckus on Twitter… but that’s just the beginning!

We hope the social media blitz will continue over the next 24 hours as we watch the Shiretoko Shock travel around the world.

The idea for the Shock came from Prashanth, one of our Mozilla Campus Reps, and we put a campaign together in just a few days so that the Mozilla community and fans everywhere could participate during our launch.

We’re hoping everyone will tweet, blog, share, post, etc. on their favorite social media channels at 3:50pm in their time zone, starting in South America at 3:50pm BRT (11:50am PDT) today.  Every part of the world will get a chance to share their thoughts on the new Firefox 3.5 as the Shock travels west around the globe.

We’ll come together 24 hours later at 3:50pm BRT (Brazil Time) on Wednesday, July 1st for the “Super Shock”!  At that time, we want the entire world to help us Shock the Web at the same time.

It should be interesting… so get ready to get your Shock on!

    After 3.0 was introduced, I had to go back to 2.2 because multiple tabs would bring my PC to a standstill! I hope 3.5 resolved this!

    Congratulations on the Firefox 3.5 release! I’ve been using it for 6 years and it’s an awesome browser.

  4. Make it universal rather than just focusing on twitter.

    @Television Spy

    Although we provided a few sample links to tweet, I did mention in my post that folks should use their favorite social media channel. I would say that’s pretty universal. ;-)

    Hmmm. You mention 3:50pm BST, but I don’t know what that means. A quick search on Wikipedia informs me that the acronym could stand for Bangladesh Standard Time, British Summer Time, or Burma Standard Time. Which one is it?

    @Ray Brown

    It’s 3:50pm BRT (Brazil Time)… BST was a typo… fixing now. Our campaign page lists out a few of the time zones: http://bit.ly/ShiretokoShockCampaign

    Their is some very good Add-ons in Firefox. How ever I do have to agree that it has slowed it down a little using these Add-ons any advise how to get around this?
