Mozilla summer internships

This summer, thirty interns participated in the Mozilla summer internship program. They worked in virtually every area of the Mozilla project: Firefox, Thunderbird, testing, the build system, marketing, analytics, web development, IT. You can read their blogs here.

If you’re a college student, you can apply now for a Mozilla internship in summer 2009.

Sound good? Keep in mind that:

  • you will have to spend about twelve weeks in sunny Mountain View, California.
  • you’ll be surrounded by some of the most brilliant minds in Open Source software.
  • you could have a lasting impact on the way over a hundred million people use the web.

If you think you can live with all that, apply online (that web site is kind of weird; poke around for “Intern” positions) or send email to julie at mozilla dot com.  Internships will be awarded by the end of February 2009 or so.

  1. Hi,
I search through the intern-possibilities but compared to the full-time jobs the internships have a small bandwidth of interests. Why isn’t there any intern for UI or Quality Assurance? I would really like to apply for an internship centered on UI.

  2. Morton, you can definitely apply for an internship in UI or QA. If the jobvite page says otherwise, it is a shortcoming in the page (not the internship program)!

  3. I would love to hear what the interns thought of the Mozilla program.

I recently co-founded InternshipRatings.com and I think it would be great to see some ratings for your company!

  4. Ah, sorry, found it. Sorry, I thought it’s a normal joboffer.. thanks

  5. Sorry, me again. An QA-internship is available now but an UI is missing. The only job I’ve found is http://www.jobvite.com/CompanyJobs/Job.aspx?c=qpX9Vfwa&v=1&j=o58bVfw3 but this seems to be full-time..

  6. I guess that web page must give the impression that the internship program has these rigid categories that you must fit into. Believe me, nothing could be further from the truth.

If you’re interested in any flavor of internship that isn’t listed there, please just send email to Julie and ask. The program is meant to be flexible. Plus, Julie is super friendly.

  7. Thank you for your help, I will contact Julie :)

  8. Hey I am a college student very excited about the possibility of interning with Mozilla. My main problem is that I go to school in Georgia, so not only would getting to California be a pain, but living there for 12 weeks would be too. Does Mozilla fly their interns in if they are not on or near location and do they provide housing for the interns?

Regardless, I would still love to do this and will most definitely apply but it’s tough finding the answers to these questions.

  9. Quick Question:
When is the due date for the applications?

  10. Yes, Mozilla does provide housing and I’m pretty sure we take care of airfare too. I’ll check. UPDATE: Yes, Mozilla covers your airfare. In fact, these are paid internships, so you can even, you know, eat. And stuff.

I don’t know of any due date for applications. The program is pretty haphazard. I would try to get mine in before 15 February 2009.

  11. Just one question. I know Mozilla is an International brand. Is this offer available for european countries?

  12. Mozilla summer internship program – will be 2009 also one?

  13. Are you asking about summer of 2010? I don’t know that anything has been announced yet, but yes, I think the summer internship program will continue.
