I wonder about seasonal variation also.
I have a collection of free genealogy sites.
A large pleasure for me is tracking the visitor rates.
This Summer the visitor rate sagged and now (September) might be beginning to pick up again.
I look for corresponding or opposing observations from others.

What about the fact that a lot of universities finish up their semesters around this time, so students are leaving campus, where the Internet is easy to get onto, and going home where that may not be the case.

Yes yes, more information like this would be useful.

Twendipedia might be a nice idea? A wikipedia for keeping track of trends of things such as internet usage.
