The Power of One
June 12th, 2006
The Mozilla project is at a really interesting stage of life. We are large enough to get meaningful things done, yet small enough to notice the impact of each individual. As the project has grown it has been really fun to watch the impact of each new person. For example, for FF2 without Dietrich we wouldn’t have Session Saver/Tab undo. Without Robert Strong we wouldn’t have the new installer/huge upgrades to the extension manager. Robert Sayre has made the new RSS features possible. I could go on for pages … (I’m leaving lots of folks out here).
I can’t think of another place where a single person can have such a significant impact on a product used by tens of millions of people. This is truly a great place to be.
FF2 In-line spell check kicks butt
May 17th, 2006
As a fast but rather inaccurate typist I have to say that In-line spell check kicks total butt. I used to paste text into another app to check spelling before posting in webmail/bugzilla/whatever. No more! Nice work!
Newer Uninstall Survey Data

I posted a little while back on the first cut of Uninstall survey data. We’ve now collected 6311 responses. They break down like so (click for bigger picture):
Morgamic and Wil are going to throw together a quick viewer app over the next few weeks so we can easily share the raw data with everyone in real time.

Morning Fun – The Peanut gun
February 16th, 2006
There are a few great hardware geek websites I read on a regular basis – one of them being www.anandtech.com which in general is awesome. A few days ago they ran an insider view on newegg.com, from whom I’ve bought more computer parts than I’d like to admit. What I thought was going to be a very boring tour of a warehouse tour turned fun when they revealed Newegg’s secret weapon – the Peanut Gun.
Security and Vulnerability Ratings
February 8th, 2006
There have been many questions about an issue patched in the most recent Firefox 1.5.0.1 release. When the release came out we rated its severity as
Over 21M served
February 3rd, 2006
As of right now in the first 48 hours or so of the 1.5.0.1 release we’ve served up >21M automatic updates and a little over a 1M new downloads. Shown in a different way – here is the load on the cluster which runs AUS – which serves out the information that updates are available:

Kudos to the everyone who helped identify and fix the issues in 1.5.0.1 and those who did the hard work in releasing our first scheduled update. Here’s to making Firefox just a little bit better for everyone on a regular basis . . .
Firefox Summit/1 Year in Mozilla
December 12th, 2005
It has been an amazing year for the Mozilla project. Last week we had a gathering of many of the contributors to the project. During the introduction I did a quick preso trying to characterize the last year. Here are some of the highlights.
Over the last year we’ve had:
