I think this might be larger than what you're talking about here, but I'd like to see a Mozilla L10n portal. Something where we can see L10n progress for each locale on each part of the project, whether that is the browser itself, the start pages, the framework for AMO, or the actual add-ons themselves.

Following a lead from Axel I looked at damned-lies briefly (example of it at http://l10n.gnome.org/). It shows a lot of the reporting functionality I'd like and it's open source.

translations.launchpad.net has a lot of features I'd like to see too (specifically the localizing+reviewing .po files on the web), but some of our sites don't use the .po format. We'd have to write a custom interface to get statistics from them and since launchpad isn't opensource that seems like a deal breaker to me.

Anyway, I feel like I'm outside the scope of the blog post, so I'll finish up, but I've been thinking about the L10n portal a lot lately and I'm happy to discuss it more. :)

Thanks, Wil. That is a really good point.

It is definitely my hope that the tools will also help with all localizable areas. I'm trying to think of the example of how this would work and what the tool would do to answer the point you mention.

Perhaps if the tool can identify just where the code lives inside whatever VCS is being used, it can help with all localizable content. Does that seem like a good starting point?

Your flow charts show the localization of the core browser well but seem to leave out localizing all the web parts (eg. mozilla.com, support.mozilla.com, addons.mozilla.org, etc.)

If tools that are developed/deployed incorporate all the localizable areas of the Firefox project it will be easier to share localizations and keep track of what's done between them.
