Community Spotlight: October
Each month we share the story of Mozilla community member and how they’re using their Mozilla gear (and they get a $50 gift certificate for their trouble). The October edition of the Community Spotlight features Travis, a Special Forces soldier (and Mozilla fan) stationed in Iraq:
“Being a Special Forces Communications team member it is my duty to ensure that all of our systems are up and running. One of them being team members’ computers. Most have been using the “other guys” web browsers and it is up to me that they use the safest browser for operation security. Well I have been a huge fan of Firefox and ensured the safety of everyone’s computers if they used Firefox to an extent. After installing it on their computers the guys agree that they enjoy using Firefox and are impressed with the security they get with it. They particularly enjoy being able to change the layout to what ever theme they want. Small potatoes in my book but it’s small things like that here in Iraq that can improve morale. It will always be my pleasure to tell everyone about Firefox and I will always be a faithful user. Keep up the good work and God bless.
SSG Travis”
Do you have a story to tell about your Mozilla Store gear? If so, tell us at communityspotlight@mozilla.com and you could win a $50 gift certificate!

Last year in my high school I became fed up with the old browser and went ahead and removed the old one and replaced it with Firefox. Soon after the school closed down for the summer and before I knew it I was back in school. I ventured into the computer lab and clicked on the internet to find Firefox up and running on a computer I had not installed it on. After going around the school I came to see the school was now on a Firefox standard. Just goes to show how a popular and great Firefox is.

First this and then you guys take over the world right?
ya. I know how it is.

Honestly, I have been an MS junkie for a long time. But after using FIREFOX, I’m lit! Firefox truly feels like it’s running with precision and poise. Not as cumbersome and ‘heavy’ as that other browser. Firefox is my browser of choice, and the plugins are WONDERFUL. Sorry, but other browsers just cannot compare when it comes to the plug-in utopia that comes with Firefox.
Take Del.icio.us for example: You get a full-on integrated toolbar that allows you to navigate your saved bookmarks, WITHIN the browser. It basically replaces the need to even have bookmarks saved on the machine at all! Firefox is the only one that has this great of a plug-in.
Like I said, Firefox is my browser of choice. I absolutely love it and wish everything in the world gave preference to it. It just works better.
“Other-browser-Junkie” turned Firefox Fan!

All I can say is WOW! this is an amazing browser. My computer runs faster and better thanks to this program. I have dial up and it feels like the internet speed is also faster. Thanks again for such an amazing browser. I can’t believe I dealt with a certain other browser for so long. So far i have switched my whole family into using this browser and a lot of my friends are running it to! Thanks again!!!!

Firefox is heaven sent. And it gets better as it grows older. It’s ‘superior form’ becomes readily apparent when numerous firefox plugins are activated.
Use it, develop with it, communicate through it. Firefox is a hot browser, and it will remain as such in my book.

I was once all another company (we all know what that company is), I never bought anything that wasn’t approved or manufactured by that company. I even had a website that had that company’s initial’s, I couldn’t have been more lost, but now I’ve been found by Mozilla , Foxfire and Thunderbird and life is so much better now. I don’t feel like I’m part of the You Got, I’ve Got, rat race anymore thanks to Mozilla and Foxfire and have I mentioned Google yet. Thank’s to all of the above, and everyone in the other guys evil empire can go to blazes.

As a web development company we can see that across the board we are seeing rapid move from IE to Firefox and the features and benefits are obvious, keep up the good work Firefox team.
October 14th, 2007 at 5:49 am
Also we are happy to say our websites look better in Firefox, its sooo much nicer to work with than buggy IE
October 14th, 2007 at 7:42 am
You know how when you asked someone to go onto the internet, they would only click that blue “e.” Well Mozilla wants to change that, and I want everyone to be clicking that red little fox.
October 15th, 2007 at 3:23 am
FIREFOX is the best internet browser. No other browser can match with it. For a closing WINDOW opening door is FIREFOX
October 15th, 2007 at 10:49 am
Well, Firefox is great web browser. It never crashes as compared to other browser. I’ve been using this browser even on my vista. I would love to uninstall IE from my Vista but it seems there is no way to do it. Anyway, has any idea, please let me know. I want to make Firefox my main browser in Vista.
and one more thing, it’s community supported and free. I like it very much, plugin friendly and very customizable.

I love the FireFox web browser. I dont know how i surfed the net before without it. I ran into it one day while surfing for an update for explorer when I found this download, I have been using it ever since i found it and I install it on every computer I work on or work with.
October 19th, 2007 at 10:20 am
Red Foxx was always cool. Some thing never change.
I’ve been using the Red Fox as my browser for about 3 years and I’m very happy.
I’d heard Leo Laporte talking about Firefox and was thinking about switching over.
Then, my boyfriend asks me: “What browser are you using? You should use Firefox. I checked it out and it’s the best!”
Let’s see….first I hear Leo chatting about it, then my boyfriend mentions it. Then I do a little research and, BAM! It must be some sort of sign. So I download it and join the Community.
I even put a Get Firefox button on my little blog thing. Even if there were no “points” given for sending people over, I’d have that button there.
My friend is buying a new computer this weekend. She’s getting a beautiful iMac.
She knows that IE is notorious and was wondering what she should do.
Of course I sang the praises of the Fox, and when she gets her new toy, I’ll help her download Firefox and hide that nasty old IE button somewhere. (Feh! Booo! Out, damned IE!)
Thank you all for this fine browser and a great Community of users and developers.
: )

There is no question that firefox is miles ahead of all other browsers. I’ve never seen or heard any IE users praising that browser’s service! Our compu “guru” told us about firefox and then downloaded it for us. We’ve told many of our friends to look at the site and they have downloaded it once they’ve seen it. Your bloggers confirm the superiority of the firefox system – their comments prove that the move has been a positive one. Thanks for all the help provided when we need it!

Too bad firefox wont let you play games in pogo, sitting at a table is impossible, ( you get a message please turn off your pop up blocker, in which I had previously) It had until just recently, I guess some update decided that we shouldn’t play those kind of games. Other than that its ok.

my parents were having some trouble with Internet Explore and since i was in school i told them the next time you have a problem with the internet, and have to get it fixed GO AND GET FIRE FOX know my parent are as happy as could be especially since Google is a instant pop up when they open it.

I was an internet explorer junkie for years, i first refused to leave my beloved M$ browser in favour of some free third party app but eventually i was brought to my senses and sat down to play with firefox, immediately i was in shock and awe! I now use firefox daily and preach to all my friend that its the best thing on the web.
I also work as an IT consultant and there hasn’t been a PC leave my office without firefox installed in the past year.
Well done Mozilla, keep it up!
October 25th, 2007 at 5:43 am
I used to use IE purely because i didn’t know any better i guess!
Now that i use firefox i carry the install file on my memory stick just in case someone i know doesn’t use it yet.
October 25th, 2007 at 7:11 am
You’ve Got …. A great program. I have had trouble with downloads and communication with my IP in the past and decided to try your program. All I can say is I feel like a dummy for holding on so long to the other one hoping it would get better…………………..NOT!! I ain’t no wiz with these things but I am learning. I learnt about firefox within my studies at college (which is college and not university cus im not american). We weighed up the advantages and disadvantages with internet explorer and firefox came out streaks ahead OF COURSE.
October 25th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
I downloaded firefox to all the computers and use it daily and my other web browser always gets frozen But firefox never does. I have also downloaded it on one of my friends computers.
GO FIREFOX!
October 25th, 2007 at 5:57 pm
I’ve been using Firefox since 2003 (and installing it on every PC I fix for someone). I once got in trouble for installing it on a school PC, but that’s a long story… A friend of mine said that Opera is soooo much better. I started using Opera. Used it for a week. I like the look and feel (knocks the socks off of Firefox) and the speed (especially the quick start up time), but other than that it just didn’t *feel* right, especially w/out automatic adblocking. Now I’m back to Firefox and loving every minute of it.
October 25th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Firefox is the best app. on my pc i could go with windows media player and have this. Thanks mozilla for such a great web browser.

I am working as a web developer in a IT MNC.
The power of firefox is simply amazing. The kind of security and features firfox provides is unbeatable.
Whether it is matter of Javascript, Ajax or CSS I am doing best in my team.
I use a lot of plugins like FireBug, Download Helper, del.icio.us, video downloader, webster dictionary(search) , coolarris premiew and a lot more. The firefox plugins have helped me being a good web developer from a college fresher with a bit of HTML knowledge.
When it comes to browsing I am using firefox only. It has been many years when I have some other browser like IE, safari or opera. I love firefox.
The extensibility and security makes it better than anything. The way you can customize or modify it is worth of being a fan og it.
I have a lot of fans in my team and I am big-big fan of firefox.
ALL HATS OFF TO FIREFOX .
Thanks Mozilla for such a great product
October 26th, 2007 at 10:04 pm
Great googily moogily!
Firefox is still simply a breath of fresh air…
My goal is to convince a School District to be unnamed as well as a Community College to implement its illustrious fast and bulbous browsing, getting rid of certain Blue and Jungle themed browsers… With every computer I fix I provide the jiggly general public with a suggestion to switch to Firefox…
And over all, I’ve found it to have a 99% success rate!
I believe stickers shall be going on my guitar case, and my laptop! Not only is Firefox exceptional as a browser unto itself, tools like FireFTP make it all the more elaborate!
Kudos to you Firefox, May you reach v20.000001!
May you also evolve into an OS!
October 27th, 2007 at 3:06 am
I must say this: When I first saw my roommate using FireFox I thought it was crazy. I said where is your IE? How could you possibly trust another browser? I watched him using it for about two days. That’s all it took! My daughter and I were hooked. FireFox Mozilla is “The ‘Diamond’ In A World of Zirconias.” It’s the “24 carat Gold necklace in the dollar store of ‘authentic -looking’ costume jewelry!” I pretty much think that that sums up my opinion of FFMozilla. Really, I wouldn’ t go back to any other browser for all the Zirconias and costume jewelry in the planet. lol
Thank you for ease and fun of your browser,
SIncerely,
Dawn Albright

I think either that guy on the photo is an actor, or if he is not, in my opinion he didn’t write that letter. I know this is out of subject but just thought i would say that, and also Firefox is nice yes i use it also.

Until early 2006, I have always stuck to IE…..thinking that FF was just another scampy little browser that popped out of nowhere. Since I first tried FF, i noticed the conveniences of tabbed browsing, easy bookmarking and organization. On top of that, FF combined with my alienware theme just generates the best user interface ever! I am now a proud user of FF and I totally rely on it. FF is AWESOME!!!! haha!, now I’m off to explore the wonders of Thunderbird and Seamonkey!!! I love Mozilla!
And screw IE7 for copying all FF features!

I am just a simple working guy here in Riyadh City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I am a Filipino earning a living abroad and I’ve learned to use the PC for the last 7 years. Until now, my job as a Manager of one of the firm needs to be literate with computers as much as possible to lessen-up my workload; from configuring my PC, internet research, letter writing and other jobs that needs computer.
Before, I used to depend only with Internet Explorer supported by the package of Windows XP Professional, which I also depend on their updates (MSN). But, time passed I discovered that it tends to manipulate the programs that I am using.
I’ve searched in the net for a browser that give me the feeling of what I am as a person in front of my PC and feeling of completing my job on time. I found Avant Browser. At first, its good to have a new browser but later on, things changed when I discovered Mozilla Firefox.
Until now, I am using Mozilla with NASA launch as a theme. Presently, I am with the theme “Metal Lion & the Spartans Meet”. The theme attracted me so much and I felt the courage to do my job on time.
Right now, my Mozilla browser consists of Yahoo and Google Toolbars. Also, the add-ons makes my web surfing a contended one.
Mabuhay!!!!!!! Bravo!!!! More power to the genius people behinf Mozilla Firefox!!!!
By the way…..I liked your Mozilla firefox logo. Keep up the good work…beautiful people!!!

Mozilla…
The Great Browser…
I have been using since many years from the day I heard of it.
Earlier I had used (before I used Mozilla) some browsers and since then when I got Mozilla I had sticked to it…Just coz how cool it is.
The flexibility and the features and ease of use and the software speed are great…
It has many a times occurred with me that I have publicize it verbally to all my friends who were using other browsers and they too liked Mozilla…
The great browser

I, for one, welcome our new Red Fox overlords
October 29th, 2007 at 10:12 am
To be honest, I do not remember the time since I was using Firefox. Cos its been really long time and had become part of my routine life! I would like to appreciate the team and individual contributors to have made this excellent contribution to society! Its amazing security, themes, downloads, add-ons are hard to compared with ‘so called’ other browsers!
The best add-on which is most useful for everyday browsing was ‘No script’. With this you have the control of browsing and no one could dare to install spywares !
I had recommended to all my friends and made them compulsorily install them
Thanks for the product towards common cause!! Keep them going. All the best!!

October 30th, 2007 at 7:03 am
Wow, I fully appreciate everything Firefox has done for me. I can now browse the internet much faster. Firefox just is extremely fast. Faster than a Cheetah.
Thanks so much FireFox for all you have done for the world. I will always remember you and forever you are mine. I am the Hawk and you are my wings. Please always stay Firefox, I will personally work for you at all times, worship you, and praise you. I like foxes.
It’s like the giant fox is watching over earth and making sure we are browsing safely. And Firefox is spreading like a wild fire so that everyone can use it.
I once saw a fox on the side of the road when I was driving to my grandparents house, and on the way back I saw it dead on the side of the road. Allso, I have a pair of gloves made from foxfur.
Firefox is the best.
October 31st, 2007 at 1:49 pm
I’ve been using firefox since 04. I stumbled across it when I went to do a research study (take drugs, under medical supervision), when a fellow volunteer opened up his web browser. Being on the defense for Internet Exploder I was definitley not in the bit interested. Some time later I bought a macbook, and well safari still in it’s primitive stage, I decided to check out that Mozilla Firefox. Ever since, Firefox has been the supreme browser. Always living it up on my dock. Firefox rocks!! Thanks Mozilla team!

I used to work in a company where IE on certain computers was constantly getting it’s homepage hijacked. I didn’t want to rebuild the computer and the user was crying for IE. I suggested firefox but they said no. My solution: I installed firefox and simply changed the icon to IE. SO, basically, I spread I spread the firefox love unbeknownst to the user!

I m workin as a Project Engineer in IT,MNC…
FireFox is simply the Best WebBrowser i have seen.
I ve been using this for nearly two years when one of my teacher in school told about the advantages of it, beacuse of it simplicity, fast access to web pages and the main thing is that “Browsing in FIREFOX is more safer than any browser” when we go for a encrypted page this browser will notify about that and also add on features to enhance the broser functionality. Still i m using this Browser and also preferred my friends to do so. I thank MOzilla team for devoloping such a great product. Expecting such kind of products in near future.

Firefox is just awesome!
Earlier i had been using IE, but then I came to know about Mozilla Firefox. I used it and found it a lot better than IE. It has a number of special features like “Open in a new tab”, “Restore session”, etc. which are very useful. So, I have recommended Firefox to all my friends and they are luving it too. It rocks. Long live Firefox!
November 4th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
I love Firefox. It’s like crack but cheaper. I get plug-ins, control, themes, speed and a super fast javascript engine etc… I get it. The fox is awsome.
Has anyone left firefox open for a day or to…? Do it. You’ll soon find its eating 500-900 megs of ram doing nothing.. A little bug that the IE doesn’t have. All said I’d rather the fox eat my memory before i switch back to IE.
All said I’m a FF junkie. I just want my memory back!!!
November 4th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Quote “I installed firefox and simply changed the icon to IE”
Richard – I do that for family members, because they are so use to the “E” they think they have to click on the E to get on the internet.
November 4th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
I’m elated that Travis has taken it upon himself to update our troops pc’s to the best browser ever! Gives a whole new meaning to “security” forces. I haven’t been happier since I un-installed IE6.0 and Poutlook Excess from my XP notebook, and I never looked back.
November 5th, 2007 at 12:48 am
Last Year when we browse internet in our university, the browser (Internet Expire
) not respond well and then i recommend them to use FIREFOX .
Now approximately all of my friends use FireFox to surf the Web.
Just FireFox !!!
November 5th, 2007 at 11:38 pm
I recommend FireFox for security reasons as well.
November 6th, 2007 at 5:00 am
I sent a letter to my school asking them to make firefox the main browser forever and THEY DID! I hear kids saying how much they like the new browser!
November 6th, 2007 at 11:30 am
I use mozilla FireFox all the time to surf the Web. I used AOL and it run so slow it mad me mad.
This is great, Thank you.
November 6th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
I love FireFox! I was told about it by a friend who SWORE it was faster, at first I didn’t really see it, but I do now! I installed it at work and I love it!
It’s also on my home computer. I even deleted the IE browser… hated how there was a toolbar from every website I went to that wanted to install itself!
YEAH FOX!
November 6th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
I’m assuming by “other guys” he’s talking about IE
Go Firefox go! I wish that M$ would start shipping Windows with Firefox pre-installed, and just realize that their browser is crap (web developers will especially know why).
I love you Mozilla, and I will buy a T-shirt to spread the word
November 8th, 2007 at 7:32 am
You won’t believe but IE has never seen the light of my desktop. First I heavily used Opera in the early days of my exposure to the Internet and ever since Mozilla launched Firefox, how in the world can I stop using a free, secure, tabbed browser?!
Now, I am a grad student and I work on web technologies. My co-workers who are novices when it comes to computers (they are writers!), they have no clue and all the do is click the blue E and they clutter their desktop with so many blue E’s!! I showed them what Firefox is and the amazing Tabbed browsing to ensure a clutter free Internet Browsing experience
You rock Mozilla
By the by, I use minimo on my Windows Mobile and urge my blog readers to use Minimo too
November 16th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
I’m a Google employee and when I started at “the Goog” one of the first new hire routine things to do is install Firefox. I was skeptical at first, but I can truly say Mozilla has changed my online experience at home and at work! From colored tabs to ease of use to speedy loading times…I am a fan for life!
I also thoroughly enjoyed Travis’ October feature from Iraq. Amazing story and what a great picture
!
Thank you!
