Gestern am 27.10.2009 fand im Cafe Netzwerk in München ein Opensource Treffen “Spezial” zu Thunderbird 3 statt.

Als “Special Guest” hatten wir Dan Mosedale, den Chefentwickler von Thunderbird zu Gast.

Neben einer kurzen Vorstellung vom neuen Thunderbird 3 Features gab es auch eine Präsentation von Raindrop. Danach war Zeit fuer Fragen und Antworten und wir hatten eine Menge von interessanten Diskussionen.

Vielen Dank an alle die gestern dabei waren und vor allem ein grosses Dankeschön an Dan Mosedale und das Team vom Cafe Netzwerk !

Das nächste Opensource Treffen in München findet am 20.11.2009 im Cafe Netzwerk statt und am 23.11.2009 findet das erste Opensource Treffen in Leipzig statt !

Viele Menschen weltweit nutzen Firefox! Interessant finde ich das sich Firefox und andere OpenSource Projekte wie Opensource sich auch immer mehr in öffentlichen Verwaltungen und Behoerden durchsetzt. Der Vortrag von Florian Schiessl auf dem letzten Opensourcetreffen fand ich deshalb persönlich sehr interessant.

So nutzt zum Beispiel das LiMux Projekt Firefox und Thunderbird und Firefox/Thunderbird sind auf den den 14.000 Rechnern der Stadtverwaltung und auf allen 28.000 Rechnern des pädagogischen Netzes installiert ! Ebenso nutzt das Auswärtige Amt Firefox : „Im Auswärtigen Amt ist Firefox heute der Standard-Browser, dienstliche E-Mails werden mit Thunderbird verschickt, die dienstlichen Notebooks sind ausschließlich mit Linux und OpenOffice bestückt.“

Und die Stadtverwaltung in Münster nutzt auch zum Teil Firefox : „The default web browser on many of the city administration’s desktops is the open source tool Firefox.“

Die Liste könnte man sicher weiterführen – finde es super das sich Opensource immer mehr auch ausserhalb vom heimischen/privaten Desktop PC durchsetzt!

A lot of people work with OpenSource Software like Firefox, Thunderbird and a lot of people contribute to this Projects as Developer, QA or with spreading the word and many other things.

During the Opensource Meeting in Munich Florian Schiessl from the Munich LiMux Project gave a great talk about the Limux Project (Why they started this Project  etc ) and a lot of interesting background information.

It was great to hear that in the Municipality of Munich 100% work stations using Firefox and Thunderbird ! Munich is not only the City of the Octoberfest or Soccer , its also the “German Silicon Valley”  and one of the most important IT Cities in Europe.

Also after some research i found an very interesting article from the Federal Foreign Office of Germany about “Open codes for an open society – German Foreign Office saves money by using open source software” and “Firefox is the standard web browser, official emails are written using Thunderbird and official notebooks are exclusively furnished with Linux and OpenOffice.”

Its great to see that the Idea of OpenSource is getting spread also beyond “end user” !

nachdem grossen Erfolg des 1. Opensource Treffen geht es weiter !

Wie bisher wird diese Veranstaltung von Mozilla und OpenOffice.org organisiert aber auch andere Projekte haben die Möglichkeit, sich mit einem kurzen Vortrag vorzustellen und in direkten Kontakt mit ihren Anwendern zu treten.

Im Rahmen einer Idee möchten wir versuchen, die Macher und die Nutzer von freier Software zusammenzubringen – in gemütlicher Atmosphäre, ganz unverbindlich, ohne kommerzielle Hintergedanken. Die Projektmitglieder können in direkten Kontakt mit ihren Nutzern treten, um wertvolles Feedback zu bekommen, und die Anwender lernen Leute aus ihrer Region kennen, die am Projekt beteiligt sind. Die Teilnahme ist natürlich vollkommen kostenfrei und unverbindlich.

Jeder ist willkommen, vom z.b. Firefox-User, der mehr über Open Source/beispielsweise das Mozilla-Projekt erfahren und mitarbeiten moechte bis zum aktiven Entwickler, der schon jahrelang zum Erfolg von Open Source Software beiträgt.

Das nächste Treffen wird am Freitag, den 25. September, im Café Netzwerk in München stattfinden.

Mit dabei sind neben Mozilla und OpenOffice.org unter anderem OpenStreetMap und CAcert.

a lot of people use Open Source Software like Firefox, OpenOffice.org, Gimp etc. As difference to closed-source Software, you can contribute to OpenSource Software in different Areas like in the Mozilla Project in QA, Support, Marketing and even Development.

My friend Florian Effenberger (OpenOffice.org Co-Marketing Lead) and I are working on an Event that brings Open Source Projects together and connect People aside from the Information Highway (Email, IRC etc) . A Event for people involved in Open Source and also People with questions about Open Source and of course for people who want to get involved into Open Source.

The kickoff of this Events will be in Munich, July 24 2009 !

How does OpenSource Projects work ? How can i get involved ? Answers to this question, a lot of great people and a lot of fun – all on one event -> the Open – Source – Meeting in Munich.

To make triage-life easier and to identify Firefox Crash and Critical Bugs we are thinking about ways to strengthen and build the number of people working on nightly triage and create a Community-Triage Team, and on some ideas to set up a priority system for which bugs get looked at first in the nightly triage work.

Focus of this Team should be on the unconfirmed Crash [and Critical] Bugs that are filed everyday [as the first priority, then move on to other classes of bugs]. With doing this daily it allows us to find regressions/crashes sooner and faster and also allow us (if the crash is on a website) to create a testcase for this Crash before a site changes. Its also clear that a lot of these crash bugs are frequently missing key information and several iterations are needed to gather information to make the bug useful. We should formalize steps to close the bugs as “incomplete” after some time period if not enough information is being added to the bug. We can encourage the filer to reopen if more info becomes available.
