Hi,

yesterday we had a great first Meeting, of the OpenSourceTreffen in Munich !

Its a Project that Florian from the OpenOffice.org Project and I developed.

With about 35 People we had a great time and a lot of interesting discussions till deep into the Evening. After the Introduction of the Project by Florian and me, i gave a talk about Mozilla and how to get involved into the Mozilla Project. For People interested the Slides can be found here. This was the first Event of the OpenSourceTreffen and we hope to have many more meetings of this in Munich in the Future and also in other cities.

Currently we have 6 Requests (+ Munich) for this kind of Event. Also we have now a Domain for this : http://www.opensourcetreffen.de/

Also a great thanks to the Team of the Cafe Netzwerk, it was a great location !

Mozilla und OpenOffice.org veranstalten am 24.Juli 2009 im “Cafe-Netzwerk” das erste Projektübergreifende Open-Source-Treffen in München !

Viele Menschen nutzen heutzutage Open-Source-Software. Fast immer wird diese Software von Ehrenamtlichen in ihrer Freizeit entwickelt, dokumentiert, vermarktet und verbessert. Zahlreiche Open-Source-Projekte arbeiten aktiv daran, den Gedanken freier Software und freier Inhalte voranzubringen, und viele Menschen setzen diese Programme ein und profitieren davon. Anders als bei der meisten proprietären Software, können die Nutzer über Blogs, IRC-Kanäle, Mailinglisten und Foren in direkten Kontakt mit den Menschen hinter den Projekten treten.

So schön die moderne Kommunikationswelt auch ist, der persönliche Kontakt ist immer noch am besten. Ein Gesicht zum Namen erleichtert manches, und viele Leute finden durch den persönlichen Kontakt selbst den Weg ins Projekt, um sich dort zu engagieren. Im Rahmen einer Idee möchten wir versuchen, die Macher und die Nutzer von freier Software zusammenzubringen – in gemütlicher Atmosphäre, ganz unverbindlich, ohne kommerzielle Hintergedanken. Die Projektmitglieder können in direkten Kontakt mit ihren Nutzern treten, um wertvolles Feedback zu bekommen, und die Anwender lernen Leute aus ihrer Region kennen, die am Projekt beteiligt sind. Die Teilnahme ist natürlich vollkommen kostenfrei und unverbindlich.

Jeder ist willkommen, vom z.b. Firefox-User, der mehr über Open Source/beispielsweise das Mozilla-Projekt erfahren möchte bis zum aktiven Entwickler, der schon jahrelang zum Erfolg von Open Source Software beiträgt.

Das ganze wird organisiert von Florian Effenberger (OpenOffice.org Marketing Project Co-Lead) und mir.

Das erste Treffen findet statt am Freitag, den 24. Juli 2009, ab 17:00 Uhr im Café Netzwerk in München. Das Café Netzwerk liegt unmittelbar am Hauptbahnhof. Mehr Informationen unter http://www.cafe-netzwerk.de

a lot of people use Open Source Software like Firefox, OpenOffice.org, Gimp etc. As difference to closed-source Software, you can contribute to OpenSource Software in different Areas like in the Mozilla Project in QA, Support, Marketing and even Development.

My friend Florian Effenberger (OpenOffice.org Co-Marketing Lead) and I are working on an Event that brings Open Source Projects together and connect People aside from the Information Highway (Email, IRC etc) . A Event for people involved in Open Source and also People with questions about Open Source and of course for people who want to get involved into Open Source.

The kickoff of this Events will be in Munich, July 24 2009 !

How does OpenSource Projects work ? How can i get involved ? Answers to this question, a lot of great people and a lot of fun – all on one event -> the Open – Source – Meeting in Munich.

To make triage-life easier and to identify Firefox Crash and Critical Bugs we are thinking about ways to strengthen and build the number of people working on nightly triage and create a Community-Triage Team, and on some ideas to set up a priority system for which bugs get looked at first in the nightly triage work.

Focus of this Team should be on the unconfirmed Crash [and Critical] Bugs that are filed everyday [as the first priority, then move on to other classes of bugs]. With doing this daily it allows us to find regressions/crashes sooner and faster and also allow us (if the crash is on a website) to create a testcase for this Crash before a site changes. Its also clear that a lot of these crash bugs are frequently missing key information and several iterations are needed to gather information to make the bug useful. We should formalize steps to close the bugs as “incomplete” after some time period if not enough information is being added to the bug. We can encourage the filer to reopen if more info becomes available.

Hi,

about a week ago (12-14 June) Community Member from Spain/Germany/Italy/France and Denmark + 5 Mozilla Employees got together in Geneva/Swiss to talk about Status of Localization-Teams, QA, SUMO and a lot of other topics.

In my talks i talked about QA and L10n and about the MozillaMeetups.

I got very great feedback from the L10n Teams about what we can improve in the Tools (like litmus) and whats on the L10n Wishlist, like a QA Dashboard. I think that a lot of the things we discussed during the Meeting will result in improvements to make the QA work for our L10n Teams easier.

I was very impressed about the Session where the L10n Teams and our Community really rocks !

Aufgrund von vielen Krankheits bzw. Urlaubsbedingten Absagen, muss er Stammtisch in Muenchen morgen leider verschoben/abgesagt werden.
